FRIENDLY TOURNAMENT RULES AND GUIDELINES

(1) Registration & Fee

a) All players are required to arrive by 12.45pm on the day of competition for registration, briefing and 'pair number' draw (please see Play Format - Schedule of Play)
b) A registration fee of $30.00 per player is payable during registration
c) If a player fails to turn up for the game, the registration fee is still payable and his team has to submit payment on his behalf
d) Registration fee is not refundable and it includes the use of Courts and 'Fleet Shuttlecocks' for play on the day itself. A maximum of 4 tubes of shuttlecocks will be tendered for play and should more shuttlecocks are required, each player will contribute $0.20 to the cost of shuttlecocks used in excess of the 4 tubes

(2) Play Format

a) Scoring System
- All matches will be played based on best of 3 games of 21 points
- At 20 all, the pair which gains a 2 point lead first, wins the game
- At 29 all, the side scoring the 30th point, wins the game
- The pair winning a game serves first in the next game

b) Schedule of Play
- During registration, each pair will draw a number (1,2,3,4) to determine his placement. The matches are scheduled as per below:
c) Competition

TEAM CHAMPION
- There will be 4 pairs of players represented from each team
- Each pair will play against the 4 pairs from opposing team, in a Round Robin format (see sample table fixture below)

Point Allocation
- Pair will receive 1 point for each match won
- All points awarded to pairs will be counted toward Team Score
- Team with the highest score will be the Team Champion

Tied Situation
If both teams have the same number of points, the following will decide the Team Champion
- Number of 'Straight Set' wins

If both team still tie on the number of 'Straight Set' wins, the difference between total points won and total points lost will determine the Team Champion

If both teams have the 'same points' difference, the Team Champion will be the team which produces the 'Individual Doubles' Champions


INDIVIDUAL DOUBLES CHAMPION
- Based on the performance in the 'Round Robin' play, pairs will be ranked according to the points received
- The top two pairs from each team will qualify for a semi-final spot
- In this elimination round, the winning pair from the semi-finals will proceed for a place in the finals

Tied Situation
- If two or more pairs in a team have the same number of points, ranking will be based on the number of 'Straight Set' wins
- If this still produces a tie, the ranking will be decided on the difference between total points won and total points lost
- If this still does not produce clear top two pairs, a lucky draw will be conducted to determine the semi-finals participation

d) Change of Ends
- In the third game, players change ends when the leading score reaches 11 points.


(3) Tournament Rules

a) Substitution of Players

Round Robin
(i) Substitution of player (after competition starts) is only allowed due to injury and injury must be immediately reported to Tournament Director
(ii) Registered players are not allowed to be Substitute Players during Round Robin
(iii) If Substitute Player suffer injuries and can no longer voluntarily play, no further substitution is allowed and the pair is deemed to have forfeited all incomplete games

Semi-Finals / Finals
(i) Substitution of player is only allowed due to injury and injury must be immediately reported to Tournament Director
(ii) Registered players are allowed to be Substitute Players during Semi-Finals and Finals
(iii) If Substitute Player suffers injuries and can no longer voluntarily play, no further substitution is allowed and the pair is deemed to have conceded the match

General Substitution Rules
(i) Player may not be substituted for reasons such as fatigue, strain or sheer lack of will to continue. Player is instead advised to voluntarily retire from tournament to avoid injury
(ii) Once a player voluntarily retires, the pair is deemed to have forfeited all their incomplete games

b) Expectations
This tournament is a friendly competition and the following will not be provided:
(i) Food and Drinks
(ii) Medical Aid, First-Aid Kits, Trained CPR attendants, Ambulance
(iii) Match Tickets, Match Spectators and Fans
(iv) Professional Linesmen, Umpires and handling of tournament

Players are expected to receive the following:
(i) No professional service fault calls
(ii) No professional line call with corresponding hand signs and gestures
(iii) No instant (if any) replay camera or video for disputes
(iv) Fault call for hitting the net or invading the opponent's court
(v) Fault call for deliberately distracting an opponent by any action such as shouting or making gestures or making funny faces

c) Code of Conduct
(i) Players are expected to behave professionally on court (despite this being an unsanctioned tournament)
(ii) All players are expected to be smartly attired for the tournament. Clean and acceptable badminton sports clothing shall be worn
(iii) Players and their supporters are expected to observe fair play and distinguished sportsmanship. Players shall not behave in an unsportmanlike manner which is clearly detrimental to badminton sport
(iv) Players must comply with goodwill formalities such as thanking and shaking hands with the opponents and the Umpire before leaving the court
(v) Players must give their best efforts to win a match. If players are found to intentionally lose the match, their names will be submitted to Badminton World Federation (BWF) for possible sanctioning
(vi) Players shall not attempt to influence the decision of Umpires, Linesmen, by arm, hand or racquet gestures or orally
(vii) Players should not seeking coaching during play
(viii) Players shall not make audible obscenities or profanities or making statements directed at an official, opponent or the spectators
(ix) Players shall not make gestures or signs with the hands and/or racket or shuttle that commonly have an obscene or offensive meaning

The Tournament Director may order removal or disqualification of player / spectator due to non-observance of Code of Conduct

(4) Interval / Rests / Delays

(a) Intervals
(i) When the leading score reaches 11 points, players will have a 1 minute's interval
(ii) Upon completion of each game, players will be given 2 minutes' interval

(b) Breaks
(i) Players will have 10 minutes' break after completing a match. They can expect to receive longer break time if they complete their match in straight-sets, while waiting for the next match
(ii) Semi-Finalists and Finalists will be given 15 minutes' break time before commencing their match

(c) Delays
(i) Player shall not cause undue delay during play and an umpire may award delay fault to the advantage of the opponent

(5) Others

(a) For rules and regulations not specifically mentioned in this General Tournament Rules and Guidelines, they will follow the Badminton World Federation (BWF) general rules and regulations
(b) In the event of any disputes or discrepancies, the Tournament Director's decision is final
(c) Appeal may be submitted to the Tournament Director and the General Committee for their deliberation immediately after the match
(a) The General Committee consists of one member from each team and the Tournament Director
(d) Players are advised to be adequately hydrated for the competition and takes measures to prevent injury
(e) Players are advised to exercise caution during play to avoid injury as medical aid and assistance will not be provided

(6) Prize Money

(b) Team Champion - $140.00
(c) Individual Doubles Champion - $140.00

Total Prize Money - $280.00
